"Wishes" puts him in league with literate emoters like Pedro The Lion's David Bazan and the Long Winters' John Roderick, both of whom contribute guest vocals. "Back Before We Were Brittle" feels gorgeous and grown-up, and even when Elbogen is overearnest ("Zero To Love"), it's with a solid sense of purpose. -- SPIN Memo to bands everywhere: Joke names? Not such a good idea. Turns out the time we've spent intentionally ignoring who we thought were some poop-joke pop-punk band we could've been spacing out to sophisticated, psych-tinged Rogue Wave-style indie rock. Perhaps it's maturity that drove main dude Eric Elbogen to drop the "To Your Mom" part of his band's name -- or perhaps a broken heart. Whatever the motive was, it all comes through on this eclectic collection of blissed-out, bass and synth-heavy ruminations. There's a quiet sense of dread in Elbogen's off kilter, echoing, wounded voice; a world-weary confusion that peeks tentatively though the moments of tension and release, particularly in songs like the beautiful "Northwestern Girls." Not that everything is dour; the band employ bouncy, Cure style bass lines on "Toil And Trouble" and "Apples For The Innocent," and a resplendent "doo-doo" chorus on "Back Before We Were Brittle." -- ROLLING STONE In just about any other place or time in human history, a guy like Eric Elbogen never would have thought to pursue singing as a career, or even a hobby. He's an inveterate mumbler with a shaky sense of pitch, and he looks pretty awkward onstage. But there's something likable -- sometimes lovable -- about his indie-rock band, Say Hi. For the band's new album, "The Wishes and the Glitch" (Euphobia), he ditched his old vampire fixation as well as the last three words in his band name (to Your Mom); the result is a warm, modest set of songs that hide their melancholy beneath sturdy tunes and lots of fuzz. Expect his cult to grow, but just a little. -- THE NEW YORK TIMES For his fifth album in six years, Eric Elbogen shortened his band moniker from Say Hi To Your Mom to Say Hi, but his musical ingredients hold firm: catchy indie-pop buoyed by synthesizers. Elbogen's mumbly croon, and clever lyrics. The croon marks a step forward: Elbogen isn't a great singe, but "Shakes Her Shoulders" sounds dynamic compared to the flat vocalizing that saddled some of Say Hi's previous work. Regardless, it isn't much of a liability, because Elbogen has a good ear for melody; "Wishes" has plenty of instantly gratifying pop hooks, the type its predecessor -- 2006's vampire-themed "Impeccable Blahs" -- lacked. That abundance makes "The Wishes And The Glitch" Say Hi's strongest disc yet. -- THE ONION ... SF & LA with The Long Winters + Block Party in Seattle

NPR's Second Stage just featured a track from the forthcoming record. Despite the incorrect pronunciation of my name (it's a hard g, folks), it is very flattering. Listen here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16850532
... Stuff, Stuff and Other Stuff
I'd like to express a warm thanks to everyone who came to see our shows this fall and let you know that we had a very good playing our songs for you. Our touring mates The Velvet Teen and The A-Sides were a treat to watch every night too, so we'd like to send a wholehearted thanks to them for coming on tour with us. Thanks are also in order for all of kind words everyone has been saying / writing in regards to the new record. I worked very hard on it, so it pleases me immensely to hear that many of you have been enjoying it. Finally, I'd like to wish everyone a great rest of the year, as we'll be hibernating (read: not doing any more shows) until early 2008. We're currently working on a tour for late Winter / early Spring, so we'll see you again then.
... The Wishes And The Glitch
Well hello. This may be the biggest announcement we've ever made and we're actually quite giddy about it. The new record has been mixed and mastered for a few weeks now but we've been all hush hush about it because, well, this lovely digital age of ours seems to spread mutated rumors faster than you can hiccup and we wanted to make sure all our hairs were combed and ties tied before we presented the news. So here goes: the fifth Say Hi record (and the first bearing our new tidy band moniker) is entitled "The Wishes And The Glitch." It will be in stores February 5th, 2008. However, AND THIS IS WHAT WE'RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT, we've made it available to you right now. That's right. That whole thing where you find out a band has a new record coming out but you have to wait four months to buy it. Yeah, that doesn't apple here. As you will see, there are a number of options for you to purchase this new record from us, but every one of them includes the ability to download DRM-free MP3s encoded at the superb bitrate of 320kbps virtually immediately. If you prefer an actual CD, that's ok too, download the record now and your CD will arrive very very soon, and very very long before you can buy it in stores. We're personally most excited about the deluxe package though, which, well, you'll see. Enough with the blah blah blah already. Go forth, friends: Buy "The Wishes And The Glitch" here: http://www.ilikesayhi.com/shop.htm Listen to clips and download some free MP3s here: http://www.ilikesayhi.com/music.htm To celebrate the pre-release of the new record, we also have a ton of tour dates with The Velvet Teen and The A-Sides, beginning next week. We'll be playing these shows as a four-piece for the first time since 2005. Do come say hello when we make it to your city: http://www.ilikesayhi.com/tour.htm http://www.ilikesayhi.com http://www.myspace.com/sayhitoyourmom ... Hamburg ...
